KAPITANA JOSIE:THE WOMAN BEHIND THE SUCCESS OF THE MAN
As a social being, no-body
would argue against the fact that man needs that all important support, care,
love and encouragement from others, whether these be from family members,
friends, colleagues or strangers. A lot
of time, man gets those positive feeling, positive support, positive attitude
and positive motivation from his wife or soul mate, if not from his mother. These women play an essential role in helping
their men to walk up the steep ladder of success with ease and efficacy.
Recent studies show that women can
do so much and they can bring the best out of their men more than they think.
It is generally accepted that a woman of beauty always care about her man and
work hard towards his success. The beautiful here is not about her physical
attributes but about her wise and loving character, it’s about her inner
beauty, which is actually the support for her man to keep working and trying
hard to make success.
Majority of women are considered to
excel at “nurturing competencies,” such as having innate care for others,
developing, inspiring and motivating others, building relationship,
collaboration and teamwork. These competencies which extend to the workplace
highlight that women are seen as more effective in getting things done, being
role models in delivering results.
These skills also describe leaders
who take on difficult challenges, ensure that people act with integrity, and
who simply achieve challenging results.
Perhaps it is for these qualities
that many women today take on various significant roles and top executive posts
in offices both in the government and private sectors.
The wise woman always encourages her
man to be confident to succeed in this world. For some men, the quote or truism
“behind every successful man, there is a woman” is quite difficult to digest,
but it is true.
And this truism couldn’t be even
more true in the case of Barangay Captain Atty. Renato U. Galimba in regards to
his better-half, Mrs. Josephine de Silva Galimba.
Widely known and fondly called in
the barangay as “Kapitana Josie”, Mrs. Galimba has been serving as a veritable
wellspring of inspiration, motivation, wisdom and more importantly, unwavering
and unequivocable support to Atty. Galimba in every and all of his undertakings
during his entire tenure as three-term barangay captain of Greater Lagro.
So much so that Kapitana Josie
completely forsook or gave up the practice of her profession as a registered
midwife and committed herself to being a full-time mother to her six children
(all boys) and a devoted wife,
confidant, advisor, supporter and a constructive critic to her husband in the
performance of his duties and responsibilities as a public servant.
In line with her commitment to
provide her unwavering and all-out support to her husband, Kapitana Josie
gladly consented the offer to act as Focal Person for the barangay’s Gender and
Development (GAD) starting sometime during the second of the three terms of
Atty. Galimba as barangay captain.
An assignation nearest to her heart,
and with her innate care for others, Kapitana Josie performed her duties as GAD
Focal Person like a devoted and caring mother -- developing, inspiring, and
motivating others and building close and healthy relationships, collaboration
and teamwork among the various sectors of society within the community.
So much so that it wasn’t long
before Kapitana Josie’s efforts as GAD Focal Person was amply and rightfully
recognized when in 2011, the barangay was adjudged winner of the “Best in
Barangay Gender Practices and Responsive Governance”, an award/recognition
given by the Quezon City LGU in collaboration with the Dept. of Interior and
Local Goverment (DILG) to the best performing barangays in the whole of Quezon
City which is comprised of 142 barangays.
The
award was replicated for the second time in 2014.
Kapitana Josie, however, considers
as her most cherished reward for her achievements as GAD Focal Person of
Barangay Greater Lagro, the recognition and respect bestowed upon her
colleagues -- fellow GAD Focal Persons from the other 13 barangays of 5th
District of Quezon City -- manifested by their having selected her as the
over-all “Point Focal Person” and head of the District’s Gender and Development
(GAD) Focal Persons.
